The Tortuga Series No.2

Single Cask Rum
ABV: 66,3% | Vol: 70CLe | Cask #: 7833

Straight off the success of the Tortuga No.1 Rum, selling out within weeks of release, comes another strong contender to the most complex Caroni release in recent years - The Tortuga No. 2

This exquisitely aged Caroni opens with fresh cereal notes, backed with shortbread and refreshing mango. The palate immediately turns richer - banana chips and dry tropical fruit are balanced with cinnamon and nutmeg spices. Complexity continues to build on the finish, with mineral-forward, herbaceous elements.

The Tortuga No.2 continues our partnership with The Sea Turtle Conservancy, the oldest sea turtle research and conservation group that works tirelessly to prevent sea turtles from disappearing.

The Tortuga Series

This Tortuga series pays homage to the now defunct Caroni distillery and has partnered with the Sea Turtle Conservancy, the oldest sea turtle research and conservation group founded in 1959, to prevent sea turtles from disappearing. Each bottle has a QR code, where the bottle owner can track a school of turtles supported by their purchase via GPS.

A Bottle For A Good Cause

When we decided to venture into rum we knew that it had to be something impactful and in line with our credo of sustainability. But what cause would be in line with the origins of Rum?

To answer this, we embarked on a journey through the birth places of rum to understand what defines these lands and the indigenous characteristics and inhabitants within them. This is when came to learn about the important yet endangered role of the sea-turtle in these delicate ecosystems.

Sea Turtle Conservancy

When we learned of The Sea Turtle Conservancy, and their legacy, we instantly knew that if we did release a bottle to support our newly found Spirit Animal, they would be the right partner.

The Sea Turtle Conservancy, formerly known as the Caribbean Conservation Corporation, is the world’s oldest sea turtle research and conservation group. An international nonprofit 501(c) 3 organization, Sea Turtle Conservancy was founded in 1959 by world-renowned sea turtle expert Dr. Archie Carr to save sea turtles from eminent extinction through rigorous science-based conservation. Headquartered in Florida, the organization carries out worldwide programs to conserve and recover sea turtle populations through research, education, advocacy and protection of the natural habitats upon which they depend. Over the course of nearly 60 years, Sea Turtle Conservancy’s research programs have yielded much of what is now known about sea turtles and the threats they face, and the organization is applying this knowledge to carry out the world’s most successful sea turtle protection and recovery programs.

The Caroni Distillery

The Caroni Distillery was founded in 1923 on the site of the old Caroni Sugar Factory. It was renowned for producing a distinctive heavy profile single Trinidad rum with unique character, vast depth, and immense complexity.
